Andrea Pomerantz Lustig

Glamour magazine “Beauty Sleuth” and cosmetics industry veteran Andrea Pomerantz Lustig is taking her wide-ranging expertise and starry list of industry contacts long-form with How to Look Expensive, her debut hardcover that proffers tips on “getting gorgeous without breaking the bank.”

“Looking expensive is all about knowledge and taste,” Pomerantz Lustig told Cosmetic World. “And taste doesn’t come with a platinum card.” The resource-filled tome—which features a foreword by Glamour editor in chief Cindi Lieve and blurbs by Bobbi Brown, Frédéric Fekkai and Tory Burch—contains suggested shopping lists, recommended estheticians the stars swear by, and step-by-step instructions for celebrity looks.

Whimsical designs throughout the book are care of noted fashion illustrator Dallas Shaw.

Launched in August, the book is already in its second printing, Pomerantz Lustig noted, and it is also the leading book in the Beauty & Fashion category on Amazon. Thus far, she has promoted the launch on Today and has several Facebook chats as well as appearances and signings slated in book and beauty retailers in the coming months.

Reviews have also been glowing, Pomerantz Lustig said, with The Wall Street Journal beaming, “There are too many beauty books on the shelves, so the bar for actually buying one is high. This one leaps it, with room to spare.” The book was also featured on the front page of The Washington Post’s Sunday business section, in The New York Times’ style section and was excerpted in Glamour’s September issue.

One of the major revelations in the book—which Pomerantz Lustig said took over two years to compile—is the way in which a beauty routine is compared to a fashion wardrobe. Drugstore and prestige products commingle in the way that one might pair a Target T-shirt with Jimmy Choo heels. The book is also divided into four different approaches to looking luxe to suit a wide variety of styles: Park Avenue Pretty, like Gwyneth Paltrow; Nicole Richie’s Hollywood Boho; a Glam Globetrotter in the spirit of Angelina Jolie; and Modern Movie Star—think Jennifer Lopez.

The book is available now and retails for $25.00.
