The James E. Marshall OCD Foundation honored Jill Belasco, CEO of Maesa Group; Liz Kaplow, president and CEO of Kaplow Communications; and Caroline Pieper-Vogt, president of the Scent Marketing Institute, at the eighth annual Beyond Beauty dinner in New York City on February 9.

Beyond Beauty, the only fundraising event designated specifically to benefit genetic research and education for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), raised $225,000 this year to support the cause. Founded by Elysée Scientific Cosmetics’ Linda Marshall, whose son James passed away at age 39 after an ongoing battle with the disease, the event was created to honor his life and raise awareness throughout the industry.

“My son’s last words were, ‘Mom, I want to make a difference,’” said Marshall. “And because of your support with this event, you have made his last wishes come true.”

Elizabeth Arden’s Art Spiro introduced Ms. Belasco, calling her a “truly exceptional human being.”

Belasco took the stage to accept her award and thanked Linda for “being a superhero and reminding us what determination looks like.”

CEW president Carlotta Jacobson introduced Ms. Kaplow, who said, “the women and men in this room are deeply committed to going beyond beauty, and how incredible is Linda for taking something debilitating and using it to move forward and bring good to the world?”

Last year’s honoree, Marie Claire’s Nancy Berger Cardone, presented Ms. Pieper-Vogt with her award.

“Beyond Beauty is about seeing what’s real,” said Pieper-Vogt. “Life is uncertain, and we need to help people live their best lives no matter what.”
