More than 625 products helmed by 300 companies in the running for the 19th annual Cosmetic Executive Women (CEW) Beauty Awards were on display at the organization’s Beauty Insiders’ Choice Awards Product Demo earlier this month. Roughly 2,100 industry insiders attended the event.

Following the demo, CEW members were invited to cast their ballots to select finalists in a total of 32 categories—who will be named on April 5. Subsequently, CEW’s board of governors will elect and announce winners during the annual Beauty Awards luncheon on May 17 at New York’s Waldorf-Astoria.

“For consumers, the CEW seal stands for a superior beauty product,” said the organization’s president, Carlotta Jacobson, “because it is the only award selected by industry insiders, who are experts in identifying the best in beauty.”

New this year was a “department store design,” CEW said, in which the event was conceived like a beauty counter for an increasingly interactive experience.

CEW also introduced a new “Tech Skin Care” category for skin care tools, as well as the “QVC Beauty Quest,” in which QVC shoppers will select six finalists and a winning brand—representing top-tier innovation—will be announced at the luncheon and featured on the channel.

Sponsored by supplier Givaudan, CEW has also announced the 2013 Eco Beauty Award finalists, which honors a product or line that has moved towards the goal of sustainability. Nominees include: Aveda, Jane Iredale Mineral Cosmetics, Josie Maran Cosmetics, La Fresh Eco-Beauty, Nature’s Gate, Naturopathica Holistic Health, Nourish, Paula’s Choice, Weleda North America and Yves Rocher North America.
