Sephora and Pantone Universe have partnered to deliver insightful color forecasting, timely trends and seasonal product collections, and to change how consumers wear, feel and think about color. The first-ever Color of the Year beauty collection features the 2012 pick “Pantone 17-1463 Tangerine Tango”—a vibrant orange reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset.

“Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

To kick-start the collaboration, Sephora introduced the Sephora + Pantone Universe Pop-Up Color Shop, a retail atmosphere in New York City’s Meatpacking District that was open to shoppers March 22-30. Modeled after the Pantone color book, the uniquely designed shop featured images taken by famed fashion and beauty photographer David Sims, and showcased the entire collection for exploration. Consumers could receive one of three different express services from a Sephora makeup artist, and had access to a mobile checkout for making purchases on site.

“Our beauty expertise has united with Pantone’s unparalleled color knowledge to become one authoritative voice at the forefront of color trend products,” said Margarita Arrigada, senior vice president of merchandising for Sephora. “Through our partnership, you’ll be introduced to products that inspire experimentation and reawaken your own passion for color.”

Inspired by the iconic Pantone chip, the limited-edition collection—with products ranging from $16.00-$68.00—features sleek, minimalist packaging, and the lipsticks, eye shadows and blushes are embossed as a nod to the voluptuous shape of a tangerine and its layers.

“This collection allows for on-trend, uninhibited expression, while being exceptionally wearable,” said Gilbert Soliz, lead artist for Sephora PRO. “Whether she is looking to create a bold look featuring Tangerine Tango, or if demure trend expression is more her style, the collection allows for customized wearability.”
