Inspired by lush Swiss landscapes and the brand’s own über-masculine DNA, famed knifemaker Victorinox is bringing to market an all-new men’s fragrance entitled Swiss Army Forest. Available at Bloomingdale’s, Lord & Taylor and on swissarmy.com, Forest is “an explosion of freshness that incorporates authentic Swiss ingredients,” said Matthias Seyfang, CEO of Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance.

The juice was developed by Firmenich perfumers Jean-Pierre Bethouart and Fabrice Pellegrin, who sought to strike a contrast between deep, woody warmth and a burst of light citrus, Victorinox said. Forest features notes of lemon, juniper and nutmeg atop a heart of clary sage, viola leaves and cedar that dries down with cypress, Siberian pine and wood moss.

The collaboration—which comprises pendant necklaces, cuff bracelets and earrings—represents a new venture for both parties, Hoffman told Cosmetic World in an exclusive interview at the Mandarin Oriental hotel. The pieces boast bean-like forms with perforated surfaces meant to evoke the liquid flow of mercury, and each contains Hoffman’s proprietary wooden fragrance beads infused with her five signature scents.

The cosmetic industry turned out in droves for the 28th annual DreamBall, held at Cipriani 42nd Street on September 27.

Organized by the American Cancer Society and the Personal Care Products Council Foundation—and founded by Cosmetic World’s own John Ledes—this year’s event honored Hearst Magazines’ Michael Clinton and L’Oréal’s Carol Hamilton. A whopping $2.4 million—and growing—was raised for the Look Good Feel Better program, which helps cancer fighters with the appearance-related side effects of their treatment.

Entitled Florabotanica, the scent was inspired by a collection of structured floral fashions Ghesquière designed some years ago. “The dresses were covered with flowers, but these flowers were neither charming nor romantic. They structured the whole silhouette,” he said. “I wanted the flowers in this perfume to express the same idea.”

Following what he calls “a flurry of activity over the past two years,” cosmetics entrepreneur Brian Robinson’s stable of beauty brands is undergoing exponential growth—both in number and variety. His firm, TPR Holdings LLC, founded in 2011, now counts eight lines across the skin, hair, fragrance and color categories.

Robinson initially made waves in the beauty industry with men’s grooming brand Zirh, which he has sold and subsequently reacquired twice from both Shiseido and P&G.

With a portfolio that comprises over 50 scents including Hall-of-Famers Obsession, Eternity and ck one, Calvin Klein is poised to introduce this month its most masculine fragrance to date. Entitled Encounter, the scent is described as a blend of crisp spice, warm cognac and sensual woods with an ad campaign fronted by Alexander Skarsgård of True Blood fame.

“Alexander Skarsgård is the ultimate Calvin Klein antihero,” said Coty, which holds the Calvin Klein fragrance license. “He’s a confident non-conformist who lives by his own rules. He’s a bit rough around the edges, but he is much deeper than his surface.” The campaign tells the story of a film noir-inspired encounter between Skarsgård and the Dutch model Lara Stone.
