38th Annual FiFi Winners Announced
“Ya’ll know the dawg likes to smell good,” announced American Idol judge and first-time FiFi presenter Randy Jackson from the podium at New York’s Downtown Armory—the site of The Fragrance Foundation’s 38th annual FiFi Awards.
And apparently, he wasn’t the only one. A veritable who’s-who of celebrities turned out for the fragrance industry’s most illustrious evening last June 10, including the glamorous starlets Kim Kardashian, Lelee Sobieski, Sofia Vergara, Tinsley Mortimer, Gail Simmons and Saffron Burrows.
That’s not to mention Michael Kors and Usher—who accepted the Hall of Fame and Male Fragrance Celebrity of the Year awards, respectively.
Usher, who described his ventures within the industry as “more of a journey than a job,” was presented with his FiFi by Art Spiro, executive vice president of Liz Claiborne Brands/Elizabeth Arden DSFG. And presenter Linda Wells, editor of Allure, described Mr. Kors’ scent acumen like this: “he hates the smell of hard-boiled eggs and cannot be in the same house as broccoli.”
Amidst the glitz, The Fragrance Foundation also introduced a new charitable component to the FiFis, the FiFi Awards Charity Auction, which is slated to become an annual feature, said Rochelle Bloom, president of The Fragrance Foundation. Foundation members donated one-of-a-kind packages to be auctioned off before and after the awards ceremony, benefiting two non-profits: the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), championed by Mr. Kors, and The New Look Foundation, founded by Usher.
All told, Coty took home the evening’s most awards with a total of four, including top honors in the Women’s Luxe and Women’s Popular Appeal categories. The Estée Lauder Companies took home two FiFis—both for Tom Ford fragrances—as did niche powerhouse Bond No. 9, which won for Women’s and Men’s Nouveau Niche.
The remaining honors were spread out evenly among Avon, Bath & Body Works, Chanel, Elizabeth Arden, La Prairie, Puig, Shiseido, Slatkin & Co., Victoria’s Secret Beauty and Yves Rocher North America—each of whom nabbed one statuette.
